Milog 1.8.5

[update as of Feb 7]

1.8.6 is now available for download. It includes bunch of crash fixes as well as the fix to the zero start odometer issue.

[update on the issue of zero start odometer]

With helps from users, especially from Glenn, the mystery of the problem is clear now. It turns out that users who don’t enter vehicle name in the log are affected by this problem. Version 1.7 was handling the case, but that was broken in version 1.8. I’m going to fix the bug as soon as possible, and it will be available in the next version 1.8.6

  1. Hi just loaded 1.8.5 with lots of hope. Unfortunately the start mileage is stubbornly still 0 and I’ve now found that using the delete button from a swipe left doesn’t work either on an entry you’ve put in for testing or on an entry within a log. You have to go into the log and scroll down to the bottom and click delete from within the log.
    I’m on an iPhone 5s running ios10.2.1

    1. Hi Phil, too bad that the zero thing is still happening. I thought I fixed it. If you don’t mind, could you give me some details on how you configure the app? Do you use templates? what field you got enabled/disabled. that sort of things.

      1. Hi, I have recently upgraded to the I Phone 7 and updated the 1.8.5. I don’t like having to edit the home page to get into the odometer and have the same problem where the odometer is 0 in both settings which is a little frustrating. I also have a problem with the locations not being alphabeticalized. I have tried different configurations and nothing changes. Please help

Do you have an email address I can send the screenshots to?
I do use a couple of templates

  2. Yes, the zero start mieage is still happening with the Feb 2 release. I’ve even uninstalled the app, reinstalled it and even with a fresh data file, entering a second entry starts with a zero mleage. It seems like it would be an easy fix, but obviously it’s not. I know programming can be tricky. Hopefully you can get this solved.

    1. Hi Glenn, when you reinstalled it and started with a fresh data, entering the second entry, did the app filled the vehicle automatically for you? If it did, the app also supposed to fill the start odometer with the end odometer of your first entry. And you say it wasn’t the case? I tested many times but can’t reproduce the ‘alleged’ bug. This is really weird.

  3. Even after 1.8.5 is released, some users are still experiencing the start odometer being zero when adding a new log. This problem is truly elusive. I fixed some potential problems earlier but still I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue some users are having.

As the first step to diagnose this issue, I’m going to update the app again with a bit of analytics code built in, so that I can get the insight on what’s going on inside the app. after the next release which will be 1.8.6, I hope that I’ll get some clue. For those who are affected by this problem, please stay tuned.

    1. Thank you for continuing to try to fix this. As I posted earlier, the zero start odometer issue occurs for me even after I deleted the app and reinstalled it, resulting in a new data file. I even installed the app on my iPad and with two successive new entries, the second entry did not start from the last entry’s end mileage. I’m using the latest iOS on an iphone6 and an iPad Air 2. It would seem that if the bug manifests itself on a clean data file on two devices, it should be easy for you to replicate the bug on your own device. (?)

      1. I’ve tested many times on my iPhone 6, iPad Pro, and the simulators, but for me, it just works fine. I deleted app, reinstalled it, and did not change any settings. On second entry, I get the start odometer from the first entry. This kind drives me crazy. When you reinstalled the app, did you change any settings? What vehicle name did you use for the first entry?

        Like

      2. I didn’t change any settings. BUT, I never entered any vehicle name. In past versions, I don’t recall using a vehicle name. Does it REQUIRE a vehicle name for that to work? Maybe that’s the problem?

        Like

      3. Vehicle name was disabled in the field settings. When I enabled it and edited my last entry, the start mileage worked as desired for the next entry.

    2. Glenn, yes, that was it. Looks like the mystery is solved. The vehicle name was the key. I just realized that the previous app handled the case where there’s no vehicle names in the log. But the new app didn’t preserve that behavior. Now that I know the underlying problem. I’m going to fix this bug. Thanks again for your help

  5. I tried what Glenn posted and edited the previous entry, I still have 0 on my odometer, also will the locations be alphabeticalized in the new fix?

    1. Rob. I added a vehicle name for a new journey. Deleted the journey, added the vehicle to my last journey. Any new journey includes the previous finish as start mileage and the vehicle.

    2. Rob, version 1.8.6 is submitted and waiting for Apple’s approval. In the mean time, try Phil’s work around. And about sorting location list alphabetically. Thanks for your input, I think it’s a good idea but, I haven’t get to that in 1.8.6 because I wanted to take care of urgent matters first. I’ll consider it in the future updates.

      1. Alphabetical locations is a huge deal for me. Used to just scroll & tap. Now have to start entering name AND hope I’m entering it the same because the filter only works based on first letters. (Having filter based on any word would help, i.e. if I can’t remember how I entered John Smith Butcher, be able to filter with just “Butcher”.)

  6. My company requires start and end miles. The lite version used to show those fields within the Log Details screen. Now, I am forced to go into Edit to see those values. Is it possible to return the start and end values back to the first Log Details screen so that all data can be presented in one place?

    1. Hi D.J., I confirm that this is a simple bug. Thanks for reporting this. I wasn’t aware of this problem. I’m going to fix this bug, but currently 1.8.6 is already in the middle of approval process by Apple. That means the fix for this bug will included in the version after 1.8.6.

  7. This update appears to have wiped out all of my logs. Suddenly I don’t show any of my logs that were marked as paid, and I’ve been using this app for an age. I now only have one log from 2005, one from 2012 and my logs from February to September 2016… where did all my logs go, why are the ones I do have marked as unpaid and can I get my logs back? Everything was in the app, nothing backed up. I also noticed that a couple of the fields that I had on had been turned off.

I’d never had an issue with this app until now, always just worked for me.

    1. Hi Jonathan, I’ll work with you to figure out what’s going on. It could be a bug, but right now I don’t have a clue. First I’ll check if I have introduced any bugs in the latest update. I might ask you for some questions later. Oh and, probably it’s a good idea for you to make a back up now just in case.

      1. Hi: I have the missing log issues as well, and hoped you could advise: My old iPhone5 crashed in November 2016, and at that time I was not aware of any backup capabilities. Is there any way to restore the logs lost on my dead phone that did not transfer to to my new iPhone7?
        Thanks.

      2. @binNotes, if your phone is dead then I’m afraid you can’t get the logs out of it. You have to have a working phone to get the logs out of it.

  8. On further inspection and your advice to check the ‘Billed enabled’ I have it all working.

Turns out the update had turned off the ‘Billbed enabled’ under ‘Fields On/Off’ and once I enabled this again my logs looked right.

Plus I found all of my logs under ‘browse’ at the bottom, never realised that the logs got kind of archieved down here, so took me by surprise when I looked for older logs.

Thanks for coming back to me on this, 10 out ot 10 for speed of response.

    Cheers

  9. Is it possible to add a “note” or “comment” field for each trip? I travel a lot and need to make notes for each trip.

    Like

    1. It depends how much of a comment you need there are 4 fields I don’t use one is called purpose the other 3 are called tag tag2 tag3. You seem to be able to type lots in to the fields but can’t easily see the detail if it’s wider than the screen not sure how it displays in a report.

You need to enable the billed field in settings if you want to use the mark as billed function.

  10. Got it. Thank you. Much appreciated. After reviewing a bunch of apps I like this one the best.
Glad it’s still working and not abandoned.

Suggestion? From a UI standpoint maybe add a button under “delete logs” that is entitled
    “Create Report”.

  11. I use Milog daily and have for years.

I like it. I like it a lot. Quite a few months back a change happened when logging in where selecting the odometer end – default highlighted the begining mileage instead of the end mileage. If I don’t pay attention I erase the beginning mileage and after completing my entry, if I didn’t notice – ruin my log. I then have to delete and re enter. If the default highlight stayed on the end mileage for the trip as it was initially for years this would not cause me mini tantrums. Ha! But seriously.

Don’t know if this is where I can voice my input but if it’s something that can be taken into consideration I’d be greatly appreciative.

      2. Ok, well I’ve got Milog 1.8.8.ipa file.
I assume if you had that you could install it?
I know the latest versions of iTunes no longer support the App Store, but you can use iMazing software which does allow full support for the App Store & app backup/installation.

It may be worth a try if I can get it to you somehow.

  14. Hello Bill,
Okay, gotcha. So if you have a little time and don’t mind offering advice. My wife still has the app on her phone from my purchase. Do you know of a way to get the app off her phone and transfer to mine? Then I could simple sign in as me (or her if needed). The app still works perfectly for her so I know it will function on my phone.
    Thanks Bill.
    Sincerely,

  15. Hi Jason,

If iTunes isn’t working for you to get a full backup of your apps, then I would suggest taking a look at iMazing – https://imazing.com

This is a very powerful app that can do way more than iTunes and you should be able to do what you need for free. Lots of details on their site, so have a good read!

Isn’t it possible to change something in the plist of the app?

  19. Can’t the developer share the Xcode project of this app. So we can use it as freeware that we can install ourself? Or someone can re-develop it.
